Mary Lou Healy has been published for more years than she likes to admit, and she doesn't plan to stop writing any time soon. Her columns have appeared in the Boston Herald, Boston Globe, Providence Journal and many other metropolitan newspapers and magazines. Her poetry is often featured in the Christian Science Monitor, where she'll have a humor essay up on May 7. She is also the author of "Gingerbread Man".

A Different Hell by Mary Lou Healy

This place is cold,
the future sold
for crack.
No turning back
from wretched lives
soon spent and old.
